The Art of Barter — Farm Edition is a hands-on homeschool program designed to bring economics, entrepreneurship, math, communication, and traditional homesteading skills to life! Instead of simply reading about how communities traded before everything had a price tag, students will actually practice it.

Throughout the program, children will learn what bartering is, how to determine the value of farm goods such as eggs, produce, livestock supplies, homemade foods, and handmade items, and how to negotiate a trade that feels fair to both sides. We’ll also explore Florida Cottage Food laws, including what families can legally make and sell from home, basic labeling and food-safety concepts, and how homesteaders can turn their skills and products into opportunities.

Students will be challenged to think critically about needs, wants, cost, demand, and value—because one dozen eggs might be worth a bag of rabbit feed to one person and something completely different to another!

The prices shown on our flyer are self-pay, à la carte prices, meaning families may choose and pay for the individual portions of the program they would like to attend.

In-Person Meetups: $40 per meetup
Each class is approximately 90 minutes.

Zoom Meetups: $15 per Zoom meetup
Each Zoom session is approximately 30 minutes.

This covers a participant’s setup space for the Grand Finale Barter Fair. Participants should bring their own table and supplies. Fair space is limited to approximately 20 participants.

🎓 Step Up For Students

Our Step Up For Students option is different from the à la carte pricing shown on the flyer. The price listed through Step Up For Students is a bundled program price that includes all of the classes in The Art of Barter program, rather than purchasing each meetup individually.

The goal isn’t simply to teach children how to barter—it’s to help them understand that their knowledge, creativity, hard work, resources, and skills all have value while showing them how communities can work together.
